Photochemical Chlorine and Bromine Activation from Artificial Saline Snow
نویسندگان
چکیده
Since the dark ozonation of frozen NaCl/NaBr solutions is known to exhibit a (nonlinear) [O3] dependence (Oldridge and Abbatt, 2011), and the observed photochemical dihalogen production may be sensitive to the extent of bromide ion depletion and the gas phase concentration of the dihalogens themselves, the effect of [O3] on the photochemical dihalogen production was investigated in experiments in which the samples were illuminated first, and then subsequently exposed to ozone. No halogen production was observed prior to ozone exposure.

Interactions of bromine, chlorine, and iodine photochemistry during ozone depletions in Barrow, Alaska
The springtime depletion of tropospheric ozone in the Arctic is known to be caused by active halogen photochemistry resulting from halogen atom precursors emitted from snow, ice, or aerosol surfaces. The role of bromine in driving ozone depletion events (ODEs) has been generally accepted, but much less is known about the role of chlorine radicals in ozone depletion chemistry. While the potentia...
متن کاملThe mechanism of halogen liberation in the polar troposphere
Sudden depletions of tropospheric ozone during spring were reported from the Arctic and also from Antarctic coastal sites. Field studies showed that those depletion events are caused by reactive halogen species, especially bromine compounds. However the source and seasonal variation of reactive halogen species is still not completely un-5 derstood. There are several indications that the halogen...

متن کاملComparative study of activation analyses for the determination of trace halogens in geological and cosmochemical samples.
Halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine) were determined by activation analyses (neutron activation analysis (NAA), photon activation analysis (PAA) and prompt gamma-ray analysis (PGA)) for geological and cosmochemical solid samples. We studied how each analytical method was for the determination of trace amounts of halogens in rock samples. Radiochemical NAA (RNAA) showed the highest ...
